Winter Wonderland Title I Event/Holiday Homecoming at SRPC

Sto-Rox School District and Pittsburgh Area Community Schools (PACS) will celebrate the start of winter with a special celebration on Wednesday, December 18 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Sto-Rox Primary Center. The Winter Wonderland Title I Event for Grades K-6 and Holiday Homecoming will take place at the Primary Center featuring lots of holiday-themed fun for local families.

The Sto-Rox Title I Event will include Reading and Math-related family activities, family resource tables, photos with Santa Claus, and games! These monthly events are part of the district’s commitment to improving academic opportunities for our students, and we can’t wait to cap 2024 with all of you!

The PACS Holiday Homecoming event will feature dinner, free turkeys, raffles, giveaways, and toys for local families. A trusted district partner, PACS is vital to helping the district succeed in its mission of providing a quality education and providing resources to district families.

Families must RSVP by Thursday, December 12 to allow organizers to prepare the proper amount of food. You can click here or below, or scan the QR code on our flier to RSVP. Transportation will be provided; a bus schedule is also available here and below.

Upper Elementary Winter Concert

Upper Elementary Winter Concert

Students in grades 4-6 will perform holiday tunes for their families on Wednesday, December 18 when the Upper Elementary holds its annual winter concert. Each grade level will sing holiday songs, and both the Upper Elementary Chorus and the Advanced Band (Grades 5 & 6) will deliver performances in tune with the season. Performances are scheduled for 1 p.m. at the Upper Elementary Gym. All families must go through security prior to the show, and no bags will be allowed inside.

Special Person Breakfasts will return this December with an event for each grade level at the Primary Center Cafeteria. Each student can bring up to two “special person” guests to this Title I event. There will be music, breakfast foods, and a special visit from Santa from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. on the following dates:

Jr./Sr. High School Winter Concert

The sounds of winter and the holiday season will fill the Jr./Sr. High School Auditorium on Thursday, December 12 when the school holds its annual winter concert. The concert will feature the bands and choral groups for the middle school and high school grade levels. Performances will start at 5:30 p.m., so please come and join us for an evening of top-notch signing and musicianship.

ORIGINAL POST: Sto-Rox School District the Child Advocacy Center at UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh are teaming up to present information to the community, including Sto-Rox parents and guardians, about Internet safety, cyberbullying, sexting, and related issues. Three presentations, all running from 6-8 p.m., are scheduled in the Sto-Rox community:

• Wednesday, October 9 at Focus on Renewal, 420 Chartiers Ave, McKees Rocks, PA 15136
• Wednesday, October 16 at Meyers Ridge, 901 Gray St, McKees Rocks, PA 15136
• Wednesday, October 23 at Pleasant Ridge, 251 Jefferson Dr, McKees Rocks, PA 15136

Senior Forensic Interviewers Rick DiBello and Cristina Indick will co-present material that will help parents protect their children from cyber bullying and other problematic social media issues. The district’s Parent/Community Liaison Ed Pierce and its Restorative Practice Coordinator from the University of Pittsburgh, Jennie Smith, are helping to organize these presentations, where DiBello and Indick will cover strategies intended to protect families from online predators, teach responsible behavior online, and promote healthy technology usage. DiBello and Indick regularly present this information to local communities, most recently to the Pittsburgh Public School Parent University. Please consider taking time out of one of your Wednesday evenings to join us for these valuable presentations.

UPDATE, 11/7/24: Here are a few more details on the Community Dinner, along with an updated flier:
• From 2pm-5pm there will be a free Highmark Wholecare Farmer's Market outside of Cafeteria on Valley Street.
• There will be BINGO with TRAC Services for Families to celebrate Adoption Awareness Month.

ORIGINAL POST: Join us on Wednesday, November 13 from 5 - 7 p.m. at the Sto-Rox Jr./Sr. High School Cafeteria for the district's annual community dinner. All members of our community, including providers are invited to attend. It would be a privilege to have you join us for this festive feast!

SRPC Halloween Parade

The 2024 Halloween Parade at Sto-Rox Primary Center is coming up soon! Parents/families are invited to join in the fun.

• Wednesday, October 30, 2024
• Parents/families can arrive between 10:00 a.m. and 10:20 a.m.
• The student parade starts at 10:30 a.m. in the front parking lot of the school. Please stand behind the orange cones closest to the grass area, across from the building.

There is no parking at the Primary Center, however parent/family parking is available at the ABC Bus Parking lot to the left of the Primary School Building. Please park there and walk to the school.

Costume Expectations:
• 
No masks
• No weapons
• Safe shoes
• Students must be self-sufficient to use the restroom in their costume.

In the event of rain, the event will be canceled for parents/families, and an indoor parade (students only) will take place. Rain cancellation will be communicated by Tuesday, October 29, 2024 at 4 p.m. via School Messenger (phone blast). We hope to see you on October 30th!

Pathways Wellness Vaccination Clinic at Primary Center

Flu season starts in October, and Sto-Rox School District wants to help make sure families are protected from influenza and other illnesses this fall. The district is working with Pathways Wellness Program to hold a vaccination clinic at Sto-Rox Primary Center on Wednesday, October 30 from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. 

Pathways Wellness Program will offer vaccinations to any student who would like to catch up on their childhood immunizations. Additionally, students and staff will be offered flu and COVID vaccines.
