The following is a letter to parents/guardians regarding safety and security procedures taking place in the district this morning.
***
Dear Sto-Rox Parents/Guardians,
On Friday, December 15, Sto-Rox Jr./Sr. High School held an A.L.I.C.E. drill. As we shared with you in September, A.L.I.C.E. is an acronym for Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, and Evacuate. The A.L.I.C.E. plan, and Friday’s drill, are part of our comprehensive effort to keep both students and staff safe during adverse events within the school and community.
As we implement A.L.I.C.E. procedures, we must continually practice and evaluate everyone’s responses. Please reinforce that it is very important for students to listen and follow directions given to them by staff, as drills are not predictable. As part of Friday’s drill, a K-9 Officer (police dog) was part of our safety and security efforts.
Parents can support today's efforts by helping their children understand the following points:
There are people of all ages, color, and backgrounds who may wish them harm.
Self-confidence comes from trying things that are hard and getting better each time.
There are many solutions and options when faced with a problem.
When your child is prepared for difficult situations, they can make informed decisions and will have more self-control.
Your child is smart and capable if they have knowledge.
In addition, you can do the following:
Help your child identify and assess possible crises.
Have your child demonstrate the ability to get away from someone who has their hands on them.
Have your child explain the different safety drills and what they mean.
Help your child name where they need to go in case of evacuation.
Discuss the importance of following the teacher’s directions without hesitation.
Please contact Jr./Sr. High School building leadership with any questions or concerns you may have.
