UPDATE, 5/30/24: Parents and families gathered Thursday morning at the Upper Elementary Gymnasium to watch as 6th graders graduated to the Jr./Sr. High School. The Class of 2030 completed its K-6 education with a ceremony filled with memories and fun. Among the speakers heard from were K-6 Principal Heather Johnston and the students’ soon-to-be principal, Jr./Sr. High School Principal Raelyn Day.
Two student leaders, Sergio Hernandez and Allen Griffin, addressed the class and the audience. Hernandez spoke about his place in the community as an immigrant from Guatemala.
“Once I arrived here I loved this school. Compared to my old school, Sto-Rox is a warm and welcoming place,” he said. “I think a lot of us take this place for granted, but sometimes we forget about the teachers and the staff. They really care about us.”
Hernandez also spoke about the need to recognize violence in the community and Sto-Rox’s role as a warm and comforting home.
“Now that a lot of us are moving onto seventh grade,” he said, “we can build new bonds and strengthen the old ones.”
Griffin added that was a lot for the class to cherish and remember, whether it was “the PSSA’s, challenging math classes, Mr. S’s (Scarnati’s) insanely long writing assignments— I could go on.” Griffin also spoke about the class’ ability to rise above violence in the community, and meet new challenges as they make the leap to 7th grade.
Congratulations to our sixth graders! We’ll see you in the fall at the Jr./Sr. High School.
