Dear Parent/Guardian/Caregiver,
Sto-Rox School District, in coordination with the Highmark Caring Place, is in the process of establishing an internal support group for students in need of grief counseling. This service will be offered in all three buildings, and is open to all grade levels.
The group will be a peer support group led by trained co-facilitators. While the purpose of the group is not to provide formal counseling, it will provide your child with the opportunity to connect with other students struggling with similar experiences in a safe and therapeutic controlled environment.
The group will meet approximately 8-10 times over the course of a few months. Meetings will be scheduled during the school day, to avoid additional transportation requirements, and every effort will be taken to minimize the impact on their daily academic schedule.
Participation in this program is completely voluntary, and students are encouraged to share what they are comfortable talking about. If you would like more information, or believe that your child would benefit from this program, please email the SRSD Social Worker/School Based Therapist:
Alexandria Gariepy at agariepy@srsd.k12.pa.us.
The Highmark Caring Place has been providing support to grieving children and families throughout Pennsylvania since 1997. This program will be provided at no-cost to you, more information is available at www.highmarkcaringplace.com.
