Dear Parents and Guardians,
It is with great sorrow that we share the sad news of the passing of a fellow colleague, Terry Spencer, a teacher at Sto-Rox Upper Elementary School. Throughout his career at Sto-Rox, Terry taught fourth grade and kindergarten. He was a warm and intelligent presence in the building. We ask that you keep his family, friends, and colleagues in your thoughts and prayers.
Funeral services for Terry will be held this Thursday, May 26, at Mt. Zion Baptist Church of Library at 3801 Mountain Road in South Park. A public viewing will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., and services will be available via live streaming on the website: houseoflawinc.com.
All classes will be held virtually on Thursday, May 26, to allow for students and staff to participate in the celebration of Terry’s life. In addition, the sixth-grade graduation ceremony which was originally scheduled for Thursday at the Upper Elementary School will be held instead on Wednesday, May 25. The sixth grade-graduation ceremony will begin at 12:00 p.m. in the gym, followed by a concert, awards ceremony and STEAM event at 1:00 p.m.
Counseling is available for students and staff again next week. If you or your child needs to speak with someone, we will ensure the necessary support is available. Allegheny County 24/7 Crisis Support is also available at 1-888-796-8226 for you or a loved one experiencing a mental health crisis or is in emotional distress.
We appreciate your understanding during this difficult time, and if you have any questions, feel free to reach out at 412-771-3213, ext. 1000.
Sincerely,
Megan Marie Van Fossan, M.A., M.Ed.
