Sto-Rox Students Get a Taste of Penn State

Do you want to be a Nittany Lion? That question was hanging over the heads of Sto-Rox students assembled in the Jr./Sr. High School Cafeteria on Monday morning. A representative from Penn State University was there to walk students through the application process and talk about everything Penn State has to offer.

Attendance at Penn State Greater Allegheny’s upcoming ‘Penn State Days’ campus visit event in White Oak on Saturday, November 4 will allow students to bypass the traditional $65 application fee. Additionally, Sto-Rox students were offered the chance to ‘Spend a Fall Day’ at Penn State’s Main Campus in State College. On Sunday, November 12 and Monday, November 13 students will be put up in a hotel overnight for the purpose of meeting with campus faculty, staff and students. This program can help students network and make progress on securing critical financial aid and college information.

Of special interest was the “2+2 Plan",” which allows students who enroll at Penn State’s branch campuses - like Greater Allegheny - to start their degree program at more affordable rates at campuses that are closer to home before transferring to State College. Sto-Rox’s School Guidance Counselor for Grades 10-12, Joe Herzing, stressed the importance of experiences like ‘Penn State Days’ and the ‘Spend a Fall Day’ program. Students and parents with further questions about college, financial aid and other post-secondary education tracks and careers should reach out to Mr. Herzing and the School Counseling Team at Sto-Rox.
