UPDATE, 6/3/24: Please take a look at all the wonderful photos from Friday night’s ceremony. Thanks again to all of the families who showed up to celebrate the Class of 2024, not to mention the administrators, staff, teachers, security personnel, band members, volunteers, and everyone else who helped the district put this event together. We deeply appreciate everyone’s efforts!
UPDATE, 8:15 p.m: Congratulations! The Sto-Rox Class of 2024 is officially graduated!
UPDATE, 4:12 p.m.: While we wait for tonight’s festivities to begin, check out this new video of the Senior Walk, held on Thursday May 23 at all the district buildings. You can learn more about this charming annual tradition at the following link. Jr./Sr. High School Spanish Teacher Ben Engelhard worked very hard to put on this event that celebrates our seniors and the bright futures they and their younger classmates share.
UPDATE, 1:00 p.m.: Here are a few reminders for people attending graduation. This information was sent out earlier this month via phone to senior families, and via email to all district families along with postings on this website. The key information to know:
• Gates open at 5:45 p.m. (These will be the lower gates, by the teachers’ parking lot.)
• No bags or balloons will be allowed. The only outside food or drink allowed is water. Everyone will be screened by security staff, so please arrive early and be patient.
• Seniors must arrive by 6:15 p.m. at the Jr./Sr. High School Cafeteria or they will not walk at graduation.
• The ceremony starts at 7 p.m. and it will be live streamed on Facebook.
While the forecast looks great - sunny skies with a high of 76 degrees - we’ll mention again that in the event of inclement weather, the ceremony will move to the Jr./Sr. High School gym.
UPDATE, 12:13 p.m.: Graduation Day started early for our graduation seniors and district teachers and staff. A special thanks goes to the Greater McKees Rocks 15136 Rotary Club for providing breakfast for our seniors! It’s important to fuel up for the day ahead, and this 8 a.m. breakfast certainly fit the bill.
Just after 9 a.m., staff took a survey of students and then had them line up to practice the procession out to the field. Students will repeat this shortly before 7 p.m. this evening.
Once students made it out to the field, the practicing began. One by one, students stood up in their rows and made their way across the stage as their names were called. School Counselor Joe Herzing led students through process with the help of principals and administrators. After two run-throughs, all the students - except for the top eight - were released. But not before a short, sweet message from Herzing."
“I’m not going anywhere,” said Herzing. “If you ever need anything, I’m here. If you don’t have my number, turn to your friend, because they probably do. And please come back, because I want to know how you’re doing.
Herzing made sure students realized alumni can return after they walk across the stage Friday night.
“I’ll give you the password: It’s, ‘I’m here to see Mr. Herzing,’” he said to a laugh from the students.
With that, most of the soon-to-be-graduates left the field to prepare for their return in a few short hours. The top eight graduates remained to run through speeches and procedures for the night ahead.
