Sto-Rox School District held its second annual Community Dinner on Wednesday, November 13. The district invited students and families to enjoy food, fun, and togetherness as Thanksgiving and the holiday season approach.
The district and its volunteer partners, organized by Jennie Smith from Just Discipline Project at the University of Pittsburgh, served meals to more than 250 families, packed more than 100 bags of Thanksgiving side dishes and canned goods, and gave out more than 8,000 pounds of fresh produce.
“We are especially grateful for the dedication and hard work of our staff, student volunteers, adult volunteers, community partners, maintenance team, custodians, security, and, of course, our outstanding cafeteria workers,” said Alex Gariepy, District Social Worker from MHY Family Services, who helped support the Community Dinner. “Their contributions were essential to the success of this event, and we are beyond thankful for the support.”
Preceding the Community Dinner was an appearance by the Highmark Wholecare Farmers Market, which delivered free fruits and vegetables to the community. According to Highmark Wholecare, this event was the most successful of the 17 farmers markets it held this year.
Thank you to everyone who donated their time and effort to establish this event as an annual tradition. We look forward to seeing everyone again next November!
