Sto-Rox students who took part in the NEED Mentoring Program visited the Allegheny Intermediate Unit in Homestead on Thursday. A project meeting was held to discuss the NEED-sponsored program “Sustainable Pathways to African-American Teachers.
Sto-Rox students shared their thoughts about the importance of being in a mentoring program, not only for themselves, but for young educators. Some of the students even showed interest in pursuing education careers once they finish high school.
“They were very into it, and very interested in that,” said Sto-Rox Guidance Counselor Joe Herzing, who was in attendance along with Sto-Rox Jr./Sr. High School teacher Carrie Palermo.
Students, NEED staff, community partners and funders reviewed the progress of the “Sustainable Pathways” program and made recommendations for the future.
