UPDATE, 3/18/24: This article has been updated to reflect the length of term(s) that new appointees would serve. For instance, two of the most recent vacancies, in Region 1 and Region 3, happened within the first two years of their respective terms, so appointees to those positions would serve “until the first Monday in December following the first municipal election that is scheduled for more than sixty (60) days after the vacancy occurred.” At that point (2025), they would have run for re-election, should they choose to do so.
ORIGINAL POST, 3/13/24: The Sto-Rox School District is looking to fill four (4) open positions on the school board. We are hoping dedicated community members will step and answer the call to serve the district, its students, families, and residents. The open positions are as follows:
• Region 1 (McKees Rocks), term ending 2027*
• Region 2 (Stowe Township), term ending 2025
• Region 2 (Stowe Township), term ending 2025
• Region 3 (At-Large), term ending 2027*
Per Section 322 of the Public School Code, interested parties must be a citizen of the Commonwealth, be of good moral character, be 18 years or age or older and have been residing in the proper municipality for at least one (1) year. *If a vacancy occurs during the first two (2) years of the term, the new appointee shall serve only until the first Monday in December following the first municipal election that is scheduled for more than sixty (60) days after the vacancy occurred. If a vacancy occurs during the last two (2) years of the former school director’s term, the individual appointed to fill that vacancy shall serve for the remainder of the term.

All applicants must attend a school board meeting and participate in an interview process. Meetings are usually held in the cafeteria of the Sto-Rox Jr./Sr. High School at the above address. Should someone file a petition with the Court of Common Pleas of Allegheny County, the court must then hold a public hearing to consider the applicant(s) for the open seat(s) and make an appointment.* We look forward to hearing from those residents who wish to serve the Sto-Rox School District community.
*This will be effective for the Region 1 seat starting on April 1, 2024.
