Why Sto-Rox?

Our History

In 1966 Stowe Township High School and the McKees Rocks School District merged to create the Sto-Rox School District. The school district is comprised of students and parents from both of these great communities which gives extensive support to the mission that we here at the Sto-Rox School District share: To prepare our students for the careers of tomorrow, today.

How do we do this?

Our district is physically and academically aligned to suit varying levels of learners starting with our Kindergarten program and continuing through our graduating Seniors. Our three school buildings serve a distinct population of students based on grade level and pedagogical insight.

Primary Center

Our Primary Center for Grades K-3, focuses on the ability to read. Reading is a fundamental of life. All students should be on grade level by the time they leave the Primary building and should be able to transition to the Upper Elementary with these skills well in hand.

Upper Elementary

Our Upper Elementary refines these skills and adds academic skills such as studying, time management, personal learning styles, math, and writing. These skills add to the students’ base knowledge and enhance it over the 4th, 5th and 6th grade years. Our teachers strive to make sure every student is prepared for the upper academic and social levels of the Junior/Senior High School.

Junior/Senior High School

The Junior/Senior High School is the last step in our students’ academic journeys. Here, students in 7th through 12th Grade are challenged to promote self-learning and exploration. They begin career exploration and documentation based on PA standards. They develop relationships with teacher academic advisors who help guide them through their many challenges as they prepare to move onto higher education or enter the skilled workforce. The Junior/Senior High School promotes a culture of learning that focuses on each student’s individual life goals.

But why Sto-Rox?

The Sto-Rox School District is a community of approximately 1200 students, 150 staff and support staff. Each member of our community works together to ensure that your student achieves success throughout their time here at Sto-Rox. Our small environment allows for the ability to create staff and student relationships that lend to the student’s successes. Our teacher-student ratio of 15: 1 provides the student and parent with consistent support across the child’s academic career.

Sto-Rox offers numerous extracurricular opportunities for any interest your child may have. Often times it takes only a few students, with common interests, to start to their own after school clubs. We partner with outside agencies, community organizations, professionals in the Pittsburgh area, and a wide array of businesses to promote on-site and off-site learning and fun.

We believe Sto-Rox School District rises above the rest in providing your child with a learning environment that considers the whole child and allows all students to freely become who they are in a safe and nurturing setting. Sto-Rox School District celebrates diversity and accepts all students as who they are.
