Students from Sto-Rox Upper Elementary led the way with a combination of academics, singing, and musicianship on Friday as they celebrated Black History Month in the school gymnasium. With a healthy crowd of parents in attendance, the Beginner Band started things off by playing a selection of songs, followed by a poem reading. Then, it was 6th Grader Teacher Chris Scarnati’s Recorder Ensemble that performed for the crowd, including a few choice solos. After that, the SRUE Chrous performed, and the event was closed out by a singing performance by all of the grade levels in attendance.
Following the event, families were encouraged to check out the Black History Month projects created by students. These projects included research on the lives of Black Americans and Black figures from history, ranging from the distant past to the current day. Students also did projects on creations from Black inventors, ranging from the egg beater to the traffic light. Check out the photos from Friday’s celebration, below.
