Good, Messy Fun: Primary Center Students Pie Their Teachers

• by AIU Communications Specialist Melissa Meyers •
One after another, Sto-Rox Primary Center students wound up and planted whipped cream pies into the faces of their teachers and principals on Tuesday. The messy event was a celebration of the school’s PBIS program, which operates off incentivizing students who meet positive behavior expectations. Each month, the building hosts school-wide events for students who meet expectations for the Viking values of being Kind, Capable, and In Control. Students who showed their Viking values on at least 80% of the school days were able to attend this month’s event.

Students who met high expectations for each monthly focus value are awarded a Viking Shield of Honor. November’s focus value was Capable. When a student earned a shield for being capable, their name was entered for a chance to throw a pie in a teacher’s face.  At the end of the month, the student from each homeroom who earns the most shields was selected to “pie” a staff member of their choice in the face.  The staff members who took part were selected from a group of volunteers from administration, teachers, and support staff. We salute our young Vikings who showed capability in and outside and the classroom, and were rewarded for it!
