Superheroes, football stars, and one princess graced Sto-Rox Jr./Sr. High School with their presence on Saturday, August 17 for a Back To School Celebration. This Title I event brought together numerous community service providers in the parking lot of the Jr./Sr. High School for activities, information, and school supply giveaways.

Highlights included a “Superheroes In The Making” table featuring Sto-Rox Primary Center staff. The district also provided information about upcoming open houses on Tuesday 8/20 (Primary), Wednesday 8/21 (Upper), and Thursday 8/22 (Jr./Sr. High School). We loved seeing our young learners in masks with their new backpacks! The district would like to thank all of the organizations who showed up to support the district, including:
• 1WayOut (which was among the groups providing free school supplies)
• Becoming A Man (BAM)
• Black Tea Brown Sugar Network
• Crisis Center North
• Focus On Renewal (FOR)
• Highmark Wholecare
• Life Wise Academy
• McKees Rocks Community Development Corporation (which also provided our teachers with classroom supplies - and apples!)
• Pittsburgh Area Community in Schools (PACS)
• Steel City Impact
While the community event was taking place, the Sto-Rox Vikings Varisty Football Team enjoyed a scrimmage against Quaker Valley. This pre-season tuneup gave the Vikings a chance to experience live, on-field action ahead of their season opener on Friday, August 23 vs. South Side Beaver. This game will serve as an Alumni Night Celebration, where Sto-Rox sports, band, cheer and other alumni will be recognized. We hope alumni will join us, and we thank everyone who showed up for Saturday’s Back To School Celebration. Check out photos from Saturday’s festivities, below.
