Photos: First Day of School in Sto-Rox!

The 2024-2025 Sto-Rox School Year got off to a great start on Monday morning with a back-to-school rally at the Jr./Sr. High School. The PRIDE - Personal Responsibility In Delivering Excellence - Community Pep Rally started at 7 a.m. just as 7th-12th graders were arriving at the school entrance along Valley Street.

Community members, community leaders - including State Representative Anita Kulik and Mayor David Flick - were on hand to lend their support, along with school board members, local service providers and agencies ranging from Cure Violence to McKees Rocks Community Development Corporation. Students welcomed the first-day celebration as cheerleaders cheered, music played, and students surveyed how their classmates matched the district’s new dress code.

Later on in the morning, it was time for Kindergarten through 6th grades to return to the classroom. One by one, students streamed off ABC Transit buses at the Upper Elementary, working their way through the security checkpoint and grabbing breakfast before heading to the class. Over at the Primary Center, new principal Lisa Mumau welcomed students to the building, including Kindergarteners who were going to school for the first time. Teachers and staff eagerly welcomed the district’s youngest students into the building for the day - and the year - ahead.
