Sto-Rox students who go above and beyond in their studies and their behavior have been honored over the past few days.
• On Thursday, March 16, NEED held its 60th Annual Scholarship Awards Dinner at the Wyndham Grand Downtown Hotel. It was the Diamond Jubilee for NEED, an agency that helps underserved youth pursue higher education. NEED awarded senior Zay Davis the Marion Jordan NEED Leadership Scholarship and senior Josh Jenkins the Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield Scholarship. Both Davis and Jenkins were stars on the Sto-Rox Vikings Football Team; Davis is heading to Slippery Rock University while Jenkins will attend Holy Cross. Seniors Damiah Starr and Alana Eberhardt were also in attendance to help celebrate. Additionally, NEED honored Guidance Counselor Joe Herzing with the Education Vanguard Award for his work with NEED and their programs. Herzing thanked NEED and CEO Dr. Marcia M. Sturdivant for keeping Sto-Rox in their hearts. “We appreciate everything you have provided for us over the years through NEED scholarships, great mentorship with Ms. (Cheryl) Biggs, and excellent educational experiences.”
• Three students from Sto-Rox Jr./Sr. High School were rewarded Monday with a trip to a Penguins game! Manfredo Nobile, Eric Richardson and Eric Lukaszewicz got the opportunity to attend Monday’s game vs. Ottawa through participation in PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports). PBIS is an evidence-based framework used by educators to honor good behavior both inside and outside the classroom. PBIS is used at all grade levels in Sto-Rox, from the Primary Center and Upper Elementary through the Jr./Sr. High School.
