Sto-Rox School District today honors Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., a preeminent figure in the U.S. Civil Rights Movement. Our schools are closed in observance of this federal holiday, and people are encouraged to participate in a day of service.

A video show-and-tell took place Thursday in Julie Himmelstein’s class at the Sto-Rox Jr./Sr. High School Library. Seventh graders showed off their video projects, which they worked on in conjunction with the Point Park University Center for Media Innovation, the Gazette 2.0, and several guest facilitators.

We are aware of the senseless violence that has taken place in our community this afternoon. While this did not happen on school grounds, we are very concerned. We are taking steps to ensure our students and staff are safe and cared for at this time.

Sto-Rox and Pittsburgh community leaders gathered at the Sto-Rox Jr./Sr. High School football field Monday evening for a vigil in honor of McKees Rocks native Damar Hamlin, a Buffalo Bills safety whose heart stopped after a tackle vs. the Cincinnati Bengals one week prior.

The Sto-Rox School Board Meeting scheduled for Thursday, January 5 at 7:00 p.m. in the Sto-Rox Jr./Sr. High School Cafeteria has been canceled. The board’s regular meetings for January - on Thursday the 19th and on Thursday the 26th - will take place as scheduled.

Dedication and commitment. Those are two words that spring to mind when one speaks with Colleen Frankel, new Assistant Principal at Sto-Rox Primary Center.

We are canceling transportation services for tomorrow, Friday, December 23 out of an abundance of caution for the coming weather. As you know, we have rain, snow, and very chilly temperatures moving in, so please stay safe out there.

TRAFFIC ALERT: The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) just told us there will be a short-term closure of the McKees Rocks Bridge, as needed, TODAY from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m.

A regularly-schedule inspection of the McKees Rocks Bridge will force traffic down to a single, alternating lane on Thursday and Friday. PennDOT announced an inspection of the bridge over the CSX railroad tracks from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. each day.
