UPDATE, 7:48 p.m: Please read the following letter to the community from the Sto-Rox School District.
Dear Sto-Rox Community,
We are aware of the violence that took place throughout our community this afternoon. While this violence did not happen on school grounds, we did lock down the school based on the advice of law enforcement. We have communicated with police throughout the evening, and at this time, classes will take place as scheduled on Tuesday, February 28.
Our staff, including security personnel, will continue to remain vigilant in the face of any potential violence. We will also have an increased police presence at the Jr./Sr. High School on Tuesday.
We also want the community to know there are resources available in times like these. The district will have counselors on hand to support our students and staff the rest of the week. You may reach out to our counseling staff at each school for information about accessing resources you need.
If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out.
Sincerely,
Megan Marie Van Fossan, M.A. M.Ed.
Superintendent

Thank you for your patience and understanding, as we know situations like this can stressful for everyone involved. However, this incident means dismissal at the Upper Elementary will likely be delayed. We will work quickly and safely to get every student home.
