The best and brightest stars of Sto-Rox’s senior class were honored Wednesday evening during the 2024 Senior Awards Night ceremony, held at the Jr./Sr. High School Auditorium.
“This is one of my favorite nights of the year,” said Joe Herzing, School Counselor for Grades 10-12, during his introductory remarks. “This one of the best senior classes we’ve ever had in terms of GPA, activities, and achievements.” Click here or below to download a complete list of award winners.
Thousands of dollars in academic awards were handed out to students departing Sto-Rox to study in higher education, the trades, and in the civil/armed forces.
One of the highlights was the presentation of the NEED Scholarship by JerryAnn Allen. A registered nurse who retired after nearly 50 years in the field, Allen works with NEED and was part of the organization’s recent awards dinner where Sto-Rox students were honored.
“Every day, every hour, every minute there’s something a nurse can do for you,” said Allen as she presented awards to five Sto-Rox students. Allen serves as a mentor for the Future Nursing group at the Jr./Sr. High School, a role that she said she takes great delight in.
Another highlight was a scholarship presented by members of the DooWop Doctors. The local band recently held benefit concerts for the Sto-Rox Music Program, raising $2,000.
“One of the events we wanted to do was to create a scholarship for music,” said band member John Pastin. Both he and Al Condeluci hail from the Norwood neighborhood and went on to achieve doctorates in separate fields, and said it was important to give back with this award - which went to decorated Senior Omar Greene.
Student-athletes were also recognized Wednesday evening, with Athletic Director Ron Butschle leading the way.
“No matter where I’ve coached, Sto-Rox is always home,” said Butschle, who taught in Sto-Rox decades ago before his career to him to Seneca Valley School District, among other places. Butschle and other district coaches and teachers honored standout seniors for their hard work, sportsmanship, and achievements.

Finally, following presentations of the Gold Pin Awards for students achieved straight A’s for a complete school year, the Valedictorian and Salutatorians were announced by Principal Raelyn Day. Jaymes-Camil Bulls is at the top of the class, while Catalena Mazza will be Salutatorian. Both students address the Sto-Rox Class of 2024 during graduation ceremonies on Friday, May 31.
“To all the families and friends who donate funds and time to our graduates, the Sto-Rox School District and community send a huge thank you,” wrote Herzing in the awards program. “Thank you for investing and believing in our students to further their education. This night would not be possible without your support.”
