Sto-Rox Seniors were honored Thursday night for their hard work inside and outside the classroom. The 2023 Senior Awards ceremony was held in the Sto-Rox Jr./Sr. High School auditorium. Guidance Counselor Joe Herzing emceed the ceremony, with several community members and Sto-Rox staff presenting scholarships and awards to graduating seniors. One of the highest was the recognition of retiring English/French teacher Deborah Finklang, “She is a gem for Sto-Rox,” said Herzing, who explained her role in creating the high school’s French Department and her work in leading AP courses and other academic pursuits. Herzing presented Finklang with flowers, and Finklang remarked, “I’ll always be a Viking, no matter where I am,” to applause from the audience. The salutatorian and valedictorian were also revealed, with Evelyn Nagel leading the Sto-Rox Class of 2023. Josh Jenkins will serve as salutatorian.
