It’s one of the classic Pittsburgh-area jobs, right alongside steelworker or coal miner, although this one has a very viable present and future. On Monday, Sto-Rox students learned what it takes to become a Steamfitter. They toured the Steamfitters Local 449 training facility in Jackson Township, Butler County. Steamfitters install and maintain pipes carrying chemicals and gases, often at high pressures. The profession has a wide range of applications across industries in Western Pennsylvania. Students who pursue careers in this field can do so with a high school diploma and apprenticeship. Check out the video below for more information on Steamfitters and all that they do. We’d like to thank Anthony Marshall of the Steamfitters Union for coordinating this valuable experience for our students.
